What is a motherboard?

The motherboard is the central component of any computer. It is a printed circuit board on which all the other essential PC elements connect: processor, memory (RAM), storage drive, graphics card, USB connectors, etc.

🔌 What is it for?

It serves as a communication platform between components. Thanks to its numerous ports and connectors, it allows each part to work together smoothly and compatibly.

🛠️ What does it contain?

  • Slots for RAM, processor, SSD/HDD, etc.

  • Internal controllers that manage power, audio, network, etc.

  • The BIOS (or UEFI), which is the very first software launched when the computer starts up.
👉 Unlike the operating system (Windows, Linux…), the BIOS is stored on the motherboard, not on the hard drive.

🖥️ Essential for operation

Without a motherboard, it is impossible to build a PC or operate a laptop: it is the foundation on which the entire system rests.
