What is the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)?

The SAR or Specific Absorption Rate is a part of the energy carried by magnetic waves absorbed by our body. To quantify its electromagnetic fields, the reference measurement is the Specific Absorption Rate. The SAR is expressed in Watt per kilogram (W/kg).

Regulation in France

Until July 1, 2020, only mobile phones and certain DECT phones were subject to this French regulation regarding exposure to electromagnetic waves. Now, manufacturers are required to measure the SAR. Since 2010, this information must be readable in advertisements and at sales locations.

This law is named after Madame Abeille, a deputy in 2010 who implemented this measure in 2015; these obligations have been applied to other devices emitting electromagnetic waves that can be used close to the human body (wireless and connected products).

How to protect yourself from waves emitted by your mobile phone

We remind you that the waves emitted by Asus smartphones such as the Zenfone series and ROG Phone are very minimal and perfectly comply with the standards set by the government as of July 1, 2020.
There are simple and inexpensive ways to avoid direct contact with these waves. Prioritize the use of a hands-free kit, especially for long calls. Explore our Accessoires Asus range of headphones for Zenfone and ROG Phone.

  • Do not place your phone in your pocket; opt for a case to limit the spread of waves.
  • Put your smartphone in airplane mode whenever you can.
  • Choose a mobile phone model with a very low SAR rate.

Various SAR Types

To measure the exposure of waves sent by the mobile phone, laboratories conduct several specific measurements.
  • The Head SAR: corresponds to using the phone at the ear, in vocal conversation. The NF EN 50360 standard limits Head SAR to 2 W / kg.
  • The Trunk SAR: corresponds to using the phone worn at the trunk level.
  • The Limb SAR: corresponds to using the phone placed in a pocket or held in the hand.

Quick Reminder on the Repairability Index

This anti-waste law was recently created in January 2021 to combat waste from electrical and electronic products, including smartphones. The goal is to repair our equipment as much as possible to limit the purchase of a new product. This reform simply consists of repairing your equipment rather than throwing it away and thus polluting. Manufacturers are now obligated to provide you with the technical specifications of your device and all the spare parts necessary for its repair. You have a rating of up to 10 on each product indicating the repairability index of the equipment you want to buy.
