Connecting an Ethernet cable (RJ45) allows you to connect your Asus laptop to the Internet using a wired connection, which is often more stable and faster than Wi-Fi.
Here is how to properly connect a network cable to your computer.
1. Identify the Ethernet port
Locate the Ethernet port (RJ45) on your Asus laptop.
This port looks like a rectangular connector slightly larger than a telephone jack. Depending on your Asus laptop model, it may be located:
- on the left side
- on the right side
- on the back of the computer
2. Connect the Ethernet cable
Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the network port of your computer.
You should hear a small click, indicating that the connector is properly locked.
3. Connect the other end of the cable
Plug the other end of the cable into:
- your Internet router
- your Internet modem
- a network switch
- or an RJ45 wall socket
Your computer will then be directly connected to your local network.
4. Check that the connection works
Once the cable is connected:
- LED indicators may light up near the Ethernet port
- Windows may display Network connected
If Internet access works, your computer is now using the wired Ethernet connection.
What to do if the Ethernet connection does not work?
If your computer does not detect the Ethernet connection, several causes are possible:
- faulty network cable
- damaged Ethernet port
- network driver not installed
- network card disabled
You can try:
- a different Ethernet cable
- a different port on your router
- restarting your computer
If your Asus computer does not have an Ethernet port
Some recent Asus laptops do not include a built-in RJ45 port.
In this case, you can use:
- a USB to Ethernet adapter
- a USB-C docking station
