How to know if I can add RAM to my PC?

Determine the number of available RAM slots on your laptop

If the manufacturer of your machine is conscientious, you should be able to find the technical specifications of your device on their official website, or at one of their authorized resellers.

These official technical sheets are often more complete and allow you to know the number of available or occupied slots, and also whether the RAM sticks are soldered or not to the laptop in the case of portable PCs.
At the same time, you can find on this technical sheet information related to the compatibility of RAM sticks to know which ones are supported by the system:
- Form factor
- Physical size
- Frequency
The second option is to go to the task manager of your computer.

The simplest and most well-known way is to press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete key combination.
Choose “Task Manager” from the list that appears, then go to the “Performance” tab.
From there, click on “Memory” and you will have access to various essential information: speed, used slots, and physical size.
Only the DDR format is missing. Also be sure to check the version of your operating system before adding RAM.
Windows tends to limit the maximum usable RAM depending on the installed version.
