Autonomy and cycles

1. The relationship between battery performance and the number of charge and discharge cycles follows a linear trend.
2. Lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) typically offer a lifespan of 300 to 500 cycles. Under moderate usage, these batteries can deliver about 80% of their original performance after 300 cycles or nearly a year of use.
3. Excessive or low ambient temperatures during usage can result in 70% or more loss in battery capacity, with the same number of charge and discharge cycles.
4. Other factors can affect battery life: system design, computer model, and power management settings made in the operating system. Ambient temperature and the number of complete charge and discharge cycles can also affect the battery.
5. The discharge rate of a laptop battery pack is directly related to power management settings and applications in use. For example, applications that heavily utilize the processor, such as graphic and animation software, gaming, and video playback, consume more power than more general office applications.

Battery maintenance

1. Remove the battery from the computer and disconnect the power cable if you don't plan to use your laptop for more than two weeks. Since the battery will discharge during storage outside the computer, it should be recharged every three months to extend its cycle capacity and prevent charging or autonomy issues in the future.

2. The battery should be stored in a location where the temperature is between 10 °C and 30 °C. Remember that the internal temperature of a laptop is higher than the external temperature. Any temperature below 10 °C could decrease battery performance. Using the battery at temperatures above 30°C increases the risk of battery explosion.
3. The current lifespan of a battery is 300 to 500 cycles, under normal usage and operating conditions. Using a laptop at temperatures too low or too high affects the total number of charge cycles the battery can perform.
4. Do not store the battery in a humid or very cold place. Humidity and cold can increase the battery discharge rate. The chemical ingredients in the battery can degrade when exposed to excessively low temperatures. There is a risk of explosion when the battery is used at excessively high ambient temperatures.
5. To optimize battery life, avoid frequent plugging and unplugging of the power adapter.
6. Do not place your computer or battery pack near a heater, fireplace, stove, or any other heat source. A temperature above 60 °C significantly increases the risk of battery explosion, chemical leakage, and fire.

Optimizing autonomy

ASUS Power4Gear (Super Hybrid Engine) technology offers you four power management modes to choose from according to your usage. When the system switches to DC (direct current) mode, ASUS Power4Gear will automatically switch to power-saving mode to optimize autonomy.

    1. To enjoy longer autonomy, you can also follow these suggestions:

      • Lower the brightness level
      • Limit processor performance in the task manager of your computer.
      • Turn off unused peripherals and hardware components.
      • Activate automatic power-saving mode (reduce brightness, turn off the screen, put it on standby) to reduce energy consumption.

Changing the processor state will affect system performance. ASUS recommends using the default settings of each power management mode.

    2. Disable wireless connection (Fn + F2)
If you are only using applications that do not require an internet connection, such as word processing software, you can disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or 3G to reduce energy consumption.
  1. Disable other applications and accessories
You can disable applications or accessories that you are not using. Disabling or closing unnecessary applications or components can reduce energy consumption and optimize the autonomy of your laptop.
