Choosing the Right Asus Charger

Your charger isn't working anymore?

Are you experiencing issues when charging your computer? Your charger isn't charging the battery anymore? Is your charger making an unusual noise?
It's not uncommon for the original charger (sold with your laptop) to encounter issues after a few years of use.
Your computer's charger undergoes wear and tear, but this wear is more pronounced because its use is often daily and constant. So how do you replace it when it's faulty? What are the criteria to consider? We explain everything!

Asus Laptop Charger: Where is the Fault Coming From?

Before replacing your Asus laptop charger, it's necessary to determine the cause of the issue.

Factors to Check Before Replacement

You need to check:

if your wall socket is properly powered

if the power strip or extension cord you're using is functional

if the charger is properly connected to your laptop via its connecting cable

and if the power cable (if your charger uses an additional power cable) is properly plugged into your wall socket.

Choose the charger that fits your needs

If all these connections are established, but you still encounter charging failures, the issue might be with the charger.

Check Your Computer's Adapter

Please check that the adapter doesn't have any physical damage (especially after falls, or if your pet has chewed or scratched it). If so, and if you have a second charger, you can test it in parallel.

Check Your PC's Battery

If everything is properly connected and your charger isn't damaged, but the battery still isn't charging, the issue likely lies with the battery itself.
A battery wears out over time: it's typically designed for around 500 charge and discharge cycles. Test your charger without the battery and see if the computer stays on.

Check the Power Connector

A charger malfunction can manifest as an issue with the power connector pin of your laptop.
This part can be replaced if the pin is broken or bent, but its replacement isn't as simple; it requires micro-soldering, which is best left to a professional.

If the indicator showing that the PC is underpowered isn't lit and the charger's casing makes a noise (approximately every second, a sort of "tick, tick, tick...")... Then the charger is indeed the culprit.

Replacing Your Asus Laptop Charger: What Information to Know?

Before diving into replacing your charger, it's important to list the essential information:

  • Your original charger's reference
  • The voltage expressed in volts (V)
  • The current intensity expressed in amperes (A)

It's crucial to refer to your laptop's model.

Asus Laptop Charger
- 1 Charger Model: PA-1121-28 / 1421 U1 REV A10
- 2 Voltage (electrical power or voltage) input, here ranging from 100 to 240 Volts
- 3 Input frequency 50 - 60 hertz
- 4 Output power (19 volts) and current (6.32 amperes)
- 5 Various safety and certification standards of the original Asus charger

To avoid damaging your battery during charging, it's highly recommended to use a manufacturer's original charger, complying with European standards (2014/35/EU "low voltage" directive, 2014/30/EU "electromagnetic compatibility" directive, and standard EN60950-1 replaced in December 2020 by standard EN62368-1).

How to Determine the Diameter of My Laptop Charger's Connector?

To determine the dimension references of your connector, you'll need to take three measurements: the length of the connector, the size of the outer diameter, and the size of the inner diameter.

For this, you can use a ruler or, better, a digital caliper that will give you measurements down to the millimeter.
Good to know: for your search for a new charger, diameter references will be noted in this way: connector length / outer diameter / inner diameter.

Example with a connector 11 x 5.5 x 2.5
- 11 represents the length of the connector: 11 millimeters
- 5.5 represents the outer diameter: 7.9 millimeters
- 2.5 represents the inner diameter: 5.4 millimeters

Important Recommendations for Proper Functioning of an Asus Charger

1. It's recommended to use an Asus original charger to avoid compatibility issues.
2. Do not leave the device on the floor with the cable stretched during charging. Also, make sure that the wheels of your office chair do not pinch the cable, which could lead to a short circuit or poor contact.

3. Avoid using different adapters on different computer models. Using an adapter that doesn't match the laptop's specifications (dimensions, tip, etc.) could lead to hardware failures on both the charger and the laptop.
4. Please ensure that the dimensions and shape of the power port (DC Jack) match. Never force a connection, and always check that the adapter's electrical specifications (voltage and amperage in particular; for example, 19 V / 6.32A) are also appropriate. Both the charger and your laptop could be damaged due to electrical overload.
5. Avoid cheap chargers, as they're often products that can be dangerous for your equipment and your safety. There are entry-level adapters, but they don't always adapt well to your computer. Opt for Asus quality.

Do your part for the planet, think about not throwing away your defective charger in the garbage, as it's a polluting product! Consider recycling it by dropping it off at the entrance of your supermarket in the designated bins.
