What is the lifespan of a laptop?

The lifespan of a laptop depends on two key aspects: Asus reliability, PC obsolescence, and the essential question of whether it is better to replace or repair. It is divided into two concepts: useful lifespan (performance) and operational lifespan (components).

⏱️ 1. The useful lifespan

This is the period during which your computer remains efficient and smooth for running recent software, games, and operating systems. It is generally 3 to 4 years for standard use before the device shows signs of PC obsolescence: slower startup, decreased responsiveness, reduced battery life.

  • slower startup,

  • less responsive,

  • with reduced battery life.

💡 This duration can be extended by:

⚙️ 2. The operational lifespan

This refers to the physical longevity of internal components: motherboard, processor, drive, etc.
👉 It can reach up to 10 years, depending on:

  • the quality of the hardware,

  • your frequency of use,

  • and especially its regular maintenance (cleaning, ventilation, temperature…).

🔋 The battery is often the first component to wear out, as early as the 2nd or 3rd year.

🛠️ Extend the life of your PC:

  • Perform regular software cleaning (cache, unnecessary apps)

  • Monitor internal temperatures

  • Consider an upgrade (SSD, RAM)

  • Replace worn parts such as the battery or charger
