PC beginner's guide: How do I start a new computer?

For the first startup of a new computer, follow these steps:

1. Plug in the power cable:
- Connect the power cable to your brand new Asus PC and plug the other end into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect peripherals:
- If you have a desktop PC, connect the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Ensure all cables are properly connected.

3. Turn on your PC:
- Press the power button located on the computer case or, for a laptop, open it and press the power button. The Windows startup process may take some time during the first boot. Do not restart your computer during this process.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions:
- When the PC starts for the first time, a setup wizard will launch. Follow the instructions to choose your language, region, and keyboard layout.

5. Connect to the Internet:
- Select your Wi-Fi network or plug in an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet. Enter the Wi-Fi password if required.

6. Set up your user account:
- You will be prompted to create a user account. You can choose to log in with a Microsoft account or create a local account. Enter the requested information, such as your name, email address, and password.

7. Configure privacy settings:
- You will be prompted to choose your privacy settings. Read the options carefully and disable those you do not wish to enable.

8. Complete the setup:
- Once all the information is entered, the PC will complete the initial setup. This may take a few minutes.

9. Install updates:
- After the initial setup, check for operating system and driver updates. Install them to ensure your PC functions correctly and is secure.

10. Install your software:
- Once updates are complete, start installing the software and applications you need. Your new PC is now ready to use!

Note: Windows and some manufacturers install a lot of software that you may not need but which takes up space on your PC. To remove all of them, check our guide: Remove pre-installed software on my PC.
