Here are the steps to follow to install a new storage drive in your computer:
- If you are replacing your old hard drive, you will need to reinstall Windows and transfer all your data from the old drive to the new one.
- If you are simply adding an additional storage drive, proceed directly to the next step.
- Install the new drive on Windows and make sure all drivers associated with this new drive are installed. Stay connected to the Internet, and you should receive a message indicating that all drivers have been installed. If not, visit the manufacturer's website to download and install them manually.
- Go to “Start” > “Disk Management.” Your new hard drive should appear with information such as “Unknown.” Right-click on it, then initialize the installation process. Once done, your additional storage drive will be usable by your PC. It may be necessary to restart the computer for all changes to be properly applied.
- If the drive does not appear in the manager, access the BIOS (at PC startup, hold F2, Delete, or the key associated depending on your manufacturer), go to the “Drives” section and look for your new drive. If it is not there, this may indicate that your system does not detect it, possibly due to a bad connection.
