You just turned on your new laptop. Your first instinct will probably be to connect to the Internet. Once connected, go to Windows Update on your PC (use the search bar to find it) and make sure to install all Windows updates.
It is important to protect yourself well before downloading and installing your personal programs (photo editing software, games, features…).
You can choose to configure default apps, meaning the software that will be used to open each type of file or perform an action (Example: opening music will use VLC Media Player). To do this, go to Settings then Apps and Default Apps.
For each option, you can assign the software that suits you best. If you want to fine-tune the setup for a perfect first start of your new laptop, you can choose to configure your power preferences to better manage your battery long-term, as well as install a password manager for more security than the one installed in your web browser.
Note: Windows and some manufacturers install many programs that you may not necessarily need, but that take up space on your PC.
