Guide to Repairing Your Asus Laptop Screen
Without a screen, it's more than reasonable to assume that a computer, whether laptop or desktop, is useless. You can't access online content or simply work because, of course, you can't see what you're typing! Because an unfortunate event can always occur and crack your screen, here's a tutorial to learn how to replace your Asus laptop screen, explained step by step and accessible to everyone.
The Differences Between Touch Screen and LCD Screen
Today, touch screens are omnipresent: present in your Asus phones, Asus tablets, Asus laptops and devices (e.g., refrigerators). Basically, a touch screen allows you to interact directly with the screen using your finger or an Asus stylus instead of an Asus mouse a Asus keyboard or a touchpad.
When the touch screen breaks, the device can still function. The touch screen (or digitizer) is the thin transparent layer that reads ("digitizes") the signal (your touch) and provides the necessary information to the processor to execute your command.
The touch screen and the LCD screen are therefore two distinct parts. It is quite possible for the touch screen to be broken and the LCD screen behind it still works. Conversely, the LCD screen displays the image and when it's broken, you can still use the touch screen, but the panel will have dark spots or cracks (or both). If both are damaged, you can still see parts of the image and the touch screen may partially function but your device won't work. Although you can use your laptop with an external monitor, it has obviously lost one of its most attractive features: portability. We'll see below how to replace your Asus laptop screen, but for now let's look at the most common potential problems.
LCD Screens – Most Common Problems
- No image
- Screen turns off by itself after a short time
- Screen is very dark and hard to read
- Screen is white with no visible image
- Screen shows one or more vertical colored lines that shouldn't appear
- Screen takes time to turn on
- Screen displays "no signal"
What causes LCD screen problems?
1. Power Supply
The power supply is responsible for supplying electricity to each component of an LCD screen, among other things. A single problem with the power supply can affect the entire device and your screen.
2. Backlight
The backlight emits light capable of passing through the LCD crystals. When the backlight is damaged, the screen may appear dark or somewhat faded. It's possible to improve the image by maximizing the brightness, but ultimately, a repair will be necessary.
3. Inverter
Located in the lower part of the LCD screen typically, the inverter powers the backlight module of the screen. Likewise, it monitors that the LEDs composing it remain stable and functional. If the inverter is defective and therefore cannot ensure the proper current and voltage supply to the backlight, the brightness of the screen will be affected.
The controller board not only decodes signals emitted by the graphics card but also controls the inverter, power supply, and LCD screen.
5. LCD Screen
From simple physical damage to pixels damaged by wear, the LCD screen is subject to numerous issues. However, significant progress has been made in terms of durability concerning these screens, although they remain quite fragile. Therefore, there is less risk of the screen being cracked or broken.

1. Evaluate the problems or damages
Is your PC functioning properly?
Does your laptop power on correctly? We recommend connecting your laptop to an external monitor to ensure this. You may need to access settings or use certain function keys to have the external screen recognized. If the external monitor works correctly, you can deduce that the issue lies with the laptop screen assembly or the EDP/LVDS cable.
Inspect the laptop
Once you've determined that it's not another component such as the graphics card or a software issue causing the screen problem, you should inspect for physical damage (if any, cracked, broken screen, etc.). Is the frame around the screen (bezel) damaged? Is the screen itself damaged? Is there an impact point? If the bezel has been damaged, you'll need to purchase a new bezel; there are no other solutions. Please note that sometimes these are only sold as part of the complete screen module. Also, check that the hinges are intact and securely attached because the cables connecting the LCD screen to the motherboard pass through the hinges.
2. Find the appropriate screen
This is the easiest part for your ASUS laptop. Locate the serial number of your laptop and contact us directly via email. We will send you the correct link for your laptop screen. You can usually find this number on the label on the bottom of your laptop or by accessing the BIOS.
In Windows, open the command prompt:
Go to the Start menu and type in Search: CMD. The window below should appear
In the command prompt (here under C:\Users\"Name") type exactly: wmic bios get serial number. Press Enter and the serial number will display on your screen.
3. Gather the right tools and open your screen
You'll need some specific tools to open your damaged screen:
- First of all, a clean and flat workspace.
- A thin-bladed knife or similar tool to remove the screen bezel
- Screwdrivers suitable for the screws used
- A second tool to remove the screen bezel
- A small bowl to safely store the screws

Steps
Remove all power sources
Turn off your laptop and ensure it's unplugged from a power source. Also, remove the battery to avoid causing any potential further issues. Remember: avoid touching components without grounding yourself... static electricity can damage your components.
The screen bezel may have some screw covers near the bottom of the screen, toward the hinges.
Carefully remove stickers and screws
Gently remove the screw covers using a needle or thin blade. Store them in a container to use when installing your new screen. Then, use the appropriate screwdriver to remove the screws. Please do not apply excessive pressure when removing the screws. Store the screws in a container.
Remove the bezel
Remove the bezel using a putty knife or thin-bladed, non-serrated tool. Take your time, especially so you don't damage the bezel and end up having to buy a new one due to haste. The tool is used to lift the frame off the LCD screen cover. There are plastic tabs at regular intervals that hold the screen and bezel in place. You'll need to apply sufficient pressure to separate them.
If you damage your bezel, we're once again available to find the one that will be suitable for your laptop model.
Remove the LCD screen
You should now have easier access to the LCD screen. It will be attached to the laptop's metal frame. There will be two screws in the upper corners. You may find some additional screws securing the LCD screen on the sides and, in some cases, strong adhesive tape holding the LCD screen in place. You'll need to remove them. Place the screws in a separate container (label the container). If you had to remove any adhesive, you'll need to replace it with new adhesive to properly install the new screen.
Disconnect connection cables
Be cautious, your screen is still connected to the lower casing by the EDP/LVDS cable. You'll need to disconnect the cable. If there's adhesive tape, remove it before separating the connectors.
Apply straight and even pressure when pulling, do not twist them.
Insert the new screen
You'll now reassemble everything. Simply follow the steps above in reverse order. Lay the new screen flat and connect the EDP/LVDS cable. Please ensure the connectors are properly aligned. Secure the new screen with the appropriate screws and adhesive to keep the LCD screen in place.
Reattach the bezel
Put the bezel back in place. Align it so that it snaps correctly into the screen casing. Ensure the bezel is properly fitted. Replace the two screws and screw covers.
Restore power
Insert the battery, connect your laptop, and start it up.
Update the BIOS and drivers
It's always recommended to update the BIOS and drivers after installing new equipment. You can easily find the information on the official Asus website.
