How to disassemble and replace the speakers of your Asus laptop

Replace the speakers of your Asus S712 laptop

To access the speakers, it is necessary to unscrew the bottom which is under the laptop. If you wish, you can refer to our tutorial on dismantling the bottom case of the GV301 series

To disassemble and reassemble the speakers, you will need:
- A tool kit with different clamping bits (cruciform or torx)
- A plastic spatula
- A screw storage locker

To explain the process, we will use the S712 series speakers as an example.

Locate the speakers on your Asus device to disassemble them

Let's start by identifying where the speakers and cable routing are located.
Most of the time, the speakers are in pairs, connected together by two cables. One cable is for the left speaker and one cable is for the right speaker (they are often braided together for convenience). These two cables most often come together on one of the two speakers (but they can also be independent). They are then connected to a power connector that clips onto the motherboard.

Here, we notice that the antennas and wifi cables are integrated on the left speaker. They run all around the battery, while the connection cables (power) of the speakers (white and black braided) run along the touchpad under the battery. Guides ensure that the cables remain in place in their cable pathway so that they do not move and that they do not risk being pinched during reassembly.

The speakers rest on their location thanks to rubber block cylinders (on certain series, they are screwed) which prevents them from moving by absorbing shocks and vibration.

The Disassembly
First disconnect and remove the battery. For this process, always disconnect the battery first and unscrew the various screws that hold it to the top case.

To disassemble the speakers, all you have to do is unclip the two coaxial cables from the wifi card and the power connector from the motherboard towards the back with the plastic spudger.

Thereafter, you can grab one of the two speakers, slide it up these two block cylinders. Then unroll the different cables from their passages until you reach the second speaker to remove it as well from these two block cylinders.

For reassembly, simply do the disassembly process in reverse.
