Missing Wi-Fi icon

If the Wi-Fi has disappeared on your Asus laptop or if the network icon no longer appears in the taskbar, the issue may be caused by a Windows setting, a missing network driver, or a hardware problem.

Before considering a repair, follow the checks below to identify and resolve a Wi-Fi issue on an Asus laptop.

Check if the Wi-Fi icon is simply hidden

In some cases, the network icon may be hidden in the taskbar.

Click the arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen to display hidden icons.

Check whether the Network or Wi-Fi icon appears in the list.

If the icon is present, you can drag it onto the taskbar so that it remains visible.

Check the taskbar settings

If the Wi-Fi icon still does not appear:

  1. Open Windows Settings.

  2. Click Personalization.

  3. Select Taskbar.

In the Notification area section, make sure the Network option is enabled.

Example: enabling the network icon in the taskbar settings.

The Wi-Fi icon should then reappear in the taskbar.

Check if the Wi-Fi card is detected

If Wi-Fi still does not work, the Wi-Fi network card may not be properly detected.

To check:

Open Device Manager.

Look for the Network adapters section.

Check whether a Wi-Fi adapter appears in the list.

Several situations may occur:

  • the Wi-Fi card appears normally → the issue is probably software-related

  • a yellow warning triangle appears → the Wi-Fi driver is likely faulty

  • no Wi-Fi card appears → the card may be disabled or defective

Reinstall or update the Wi-Fi driver

An outdated or corrupted network driver may prevent Wi-Fi from working properly.

To reinstall the driver:

Open Device Manager.

Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter.

Select Uninstall device.

Restart your computer.

After restarting, Windows will automatically reinstall the network driver.

If necessary, you can also download the Wi-Fi driver from the official Asus website.

When the problem may be hardware-related

If after all these checks Wi-Fi is still missing or not working, the issue may be caused by a hardware component.

On an Asus laptop, the components involved may include:

  • the internal Wi-Fi card

  • the Wi-Fi antennas located in the screen

These components may wear out or become damaged over time.

In this case, it may be necessary to replace the Wi-Fi card or the laptop’s Wi-Fi antennas with a compatible part.
